Real Madrid’s doctors examined Kylian Mbappé’s right knee while his left was injured in early December, an error uncovered more than three weeks later.
According to L'Équipe, he felt left-knee pain during the 0-2 loss to Celta Vigo on seven December. An MRI two days later was read as clear because images were of his right knee, and he did not play against Manchester City.
He then played three matches in six days against Alavés, Talavera and Sevilla, scoring four times. On 30 December he cut training short, and a scan on 31 December followed. Real then said he had a left knee sprain.
Three weeks of rest were advised, but under pressure from Xabi Alonso he returned after 11 days for the Supercopa final against Barcelona, coming on in the 76th minute. He then played eight of nine games and scored nine.
With pain persisting, he halted before the Benfica play-off second leg on 25 February and sought an external opinion. He consulted Prof Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet on two March, when a precise diagnosis was made, and said he had been frustrated at not knowing sooner.
He later denied the claims and credited the club. The report also notes doubts over Madrid’s medical unit and cites Eduardo Camavinga having the wrong leg scanned on three December, before two weeks out. After the March diagnosis, Mbappé is said to have told Pérez he wanted only Christophe Baudot in charge.
