However, Mbappe’s involvement came to and end around 12 minutes from time at the Boston Stadium.

The forward went to ground with nobody around him, spoke to a couple of members of the France medical staff after getting back to his feet and was then replaced by Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

As Mbappe took his seat on the France bench along with the rest of the substitutes, his right ankle was wrapped in ice, thus raising doubts over his involvement in next week’s World Cup semi-final against either Spain or Belgium.

That said, the 27-year-old effectively delivered an injury update without saying a single word at the full-time whistle.

As seen in the video clip above, Mbappe could be seen moving around freely on his right ankle as he lead the post-match celebrations in front of the France supporters.

Then when speaking to reporters after returning to the tunnel to partake in his post-match media duties, the France captain admitted he his managing a minor ankle injury, but insists he is fine.

"I have a minor ankle injury, but I'm completely fine,” he said. “Mateta was in a better position to play the remaining minutes of the match and was fitter at that moment.

“That's all that happened."
