Kylian Mbappé drew level with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid calendar-year goal record after scoring an 86th-minute penalty against Sevilla at the Bernabeu on matchday 17. The strike took him to 59 for 2025, matching Ronaldo’s 2013 mark, and he celebrated in the style of his idol.

It was his 39th La Liga goal this year, alongside 14 in the Champions League, four in the Copa del Rey, one in the Spanish Super Cup and one at the Club World Cup. L'Équipe notes that the forward was also marking his 27th birthday on Saturday.

Across the year he has played 59 matches, a rate of a goal per game. Since arriving in Madrid in summer 2024, he has 73 in 83 outings, close to that same average.

Mbappé has surged this season, carrying the side and leading the scoring charts in both La Liga and the Champions League.

He has also scored seven times for France in 2025, underlining the most prolific year of his career.
