Kylian Mbappé finishes 2026 World Cup top scorer, Lionel Messi second

Kylian Mbappé finished as the 2026 World Cup's top scorer with 10 goals in eight matches, ahead of Lionel Messi on eight.

The France captain topped the chart after a tournament-long duel with the Argentina forward. He also provided four assists and was involved in more than two-thirds of France's goals.

The Real Madrid striker thereby retained the top-scorer honour he earned at Qatar 2022, when he struck eight.

Messi was a finalist with Argentina against Spain, losing 0-1 after extra time.

Jude Bellingham completed the podium. He scored in England's 6-4 win over France in the third-place play-off, finishing on seven with one assist, which edged Erling Haaland, also on seven.

Ousmane Dembélé and Harry Kane recorded six apiece. Mikel Oyarzabal finished on five, while Vinicius Junior, Ismaïla Sarr and Julian Quinones each scored four.
