La Liga face roadblocks in efforts to move Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid to the USA | OneFootball

As part of La Liga’s efforts to globalise the league, the Spanish top flight had made an ambitious plan of holding Barcelona’s game against Atletico Madrid in the United States.

However, with just 47 days left for the fixture, it is not entirely sure whether or not La Liga will be able to achieve its desired target.

Uncertainty over Barcelona-Atletico game

As reported by Sergio Fernandez, La Liga are facing multiple roadblocks in their bid to host the Barcelona-Atletico Madrid game in the United States.

Both La Liga and its partners have been working tirelessly to make this high-profile match happen in the United States, but there have been significant legal and administrative challenges.

Last month, La Liga president Javier Tebas offered a rather uninspiring update when asked about the event, which goes hand in hand with ongoing challenges.

RFEF, which must authorize any official matches held abroad, is currently in an unusual predicament.

The federation is under a temporary Management Committee after the disqualification of interim president Pedro Rocha, leaving it with limited powers to manage only routine operations.

As such, it lacks the authority to approve major decisions—like moving a game to Miami. The RFEF has now reached out to the High Council of Sports for assistance.

To complicate matters, the CSD has forwarded the issue to the Administrative Court of Sport for clarification, with an answer not expected before November 14.

If TAD confirms that the Management Committee can authorize the match, approval may follow swiftly. If not, it will mark the third failed attempt to bring a La Liga match to U.S. soil.

Barcelona, for their part, are likely to follow these events closely. The club have been trying for wages to hold matches outside of Spain. Whether or not it will succeed this time remains to be seen.
