According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga has officially filed a complaint with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after offensive chants were directed at Barcelona during their opening league clash against Real Mallorca.

The governing body submitted its report from the first round of fixtures on Wednesday, highlighting the incidents that took place at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

The complaint specifically points to two separate moments in the 41st minute of the match.

What is being reported?

Both incidents were carried out by a group of local supporters situated in the Lluís Sitjar Stand at the South End of the stadium. The report states:

“In the 41st minute of the match, a group of local fans, located in the Lluís Sitjar Stand in the South End, led by a member with a microphone, sang in a choral and coordinated manner for approximately 8 seconds the chant ‘Olele, olalá, being a Barça fan is being a moron.'”

It further adds: “In the 41st minute of the match, a group of local fans, located in the Lluís Sitjar Stand in the South End, led by a member with a microphone, sang in a choral and coordinated manner for approximately 10 seconds the chant ‘Puta Barça, puta Barça eh’.”

La Liga highlights nature of the incident

While the chants have been formally reported, La Liga was also keen to stress that the rest of the Mallorca supporters behaved appropriately.

The official statement emphasised that the situation was limited to one specific section of the ground.

“It should be especially noted that the aforementioned events occurred solely from the described area, with the rest of the home fans present in the stadium maintaining appropriate behaviour.”

Barcelona’s trip to Mallorca was otherwise marked by a decent performance on the pitch, but the incident has drawn attention off it.

With La Liga cracking down on offensive and discriminatory chants in stadiums, this latest complaint could result in sanctions or disciplinary measures for the home side.
