Vinicius Jr is one of the most talented wingers in world football as it stands and is rightly the favourite to take home the Ballon d’Or later this year.

While his performances on the field are high quality, however, he often finds himself in controversial situations for a plethora of reasons.

The primary reason behind the Brazilian’s constant flirting with controversy is the racist angle for he is no stranger to being singled out, insulted and jeered at for his skin colour.

In fact, Vinicius has now taken up the issue and is taking a strong stand in the fight against racism.

Simultaneously, however, a lot has been said about the youngster’s general poor sense of discipline and edgy decisions on the field that lead to controversy on their own.

Tebas gives his two cents

Speaking in a recent interview, as revealed by SPORT, La Liga president Javier Tebas gave his two cents on the topic and Vinicius Jr’s role in the fight against the societal vice.

“Vinicius is right to lead this issue of racism. It is commendable that he leads that campaign,” he said.

Tebas then insisted that while the Brazilian was indeed targeted, he must also make amendments to his behaviour on the field which has become a general consensus in the footballing world.

“He must try to advise himself and correct his behavior on the field of play. If he corrected that, he would become a leader who would be good for the fight against racism.”

Speaking about racism in the league and the country of Spain, the La Liga president said,

“Spain is not racist and the few racist episodes must be eliminated.”
