In a match filled with high expectations due to the quality of their squads, the Manchester rivals disappointed with a completely forgettable derby. United and City both took to the field in high spirits and tried to put on a good show, but the scoreless game was mainly down to poor inspiration from both teams.
Chances were virtually non-existent during the first half at Old Trafford, as Pep Guardiola's side failed to get their style of play going with intensity down the flanks. What's more, they couldn't find a solution to find any space at all, being very uncreative and offering no danger to the Red Devils.
Insisting a lot on building in the central corridor, Manchester City only managed one shot on target, when Kevin De Bruyne's shot stopped in Onana's hands. Manchester United, meanwhile, managed to make more of their chances with good triangulations and link-ups, mainly involving Dalot, the game's main creator.

Manchester City only managed to improve from the second half onwards when they were much more aggressive than in the first half. Phil Foden and Marmoush had good chances to open the scoring, but the Egyptian was denied by saves from goalkeeper Onana. From the 70th minute onwards, United regained control of the match, occupying spaces in midfield and creating problems for the Citzens' defense.
Bruno Fernandes made a great run down the right and Ugarte finished with a first-time shot, the ball bouncing off the post. Finally, Zirkzee tried a long-range shot with precision, but Ederson made a great save to secure the draw.

For Manchester City, the result means greater pressure in the fight for a UEFA Champions League place, even with Chelsea's draw, as Aston Villa and Newcastle are presenting themselves in a position to fight for the last spot and are now the main candidates. For the Red Devils, this result was yet another sign of the disappointment that surrounds a Premier League season that is already over, with no prospects until June.
