Matchday 19 in LaLiga EA Sports featured several contentious calls. According to AS, former referee Iturralde González assessed the main incidents from Rayo Vallecano v Mallorca and Oviedo v Betis.
In Vallecas, the first flashpoint came when Martin Valjent was penalised for a hand to Jorge de Frutos’s face inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot without consulting the monitor. Isi Palazón converted to make it 2-1.
Iturralde viewed the decision as tight, the kind that looks like a penalty in a still image with an arm to the face.
Later Óscar Valentín was sent off after an initial yellow was upgraded on VAR review for a challenge from behind on Pablo Torre, his studs catching the leg.
Iturralde underlined the difference between leaving studs planted and following through, saying the opponent’s leg was trapped, so this warranted a red card.
At the Carlos Tartiere, Betis’s equaliser also drew debate. As Antony’s cross arrived, Gio Lo Celso put his hands on David Carmo before the finish, then VAR confirmed the goal. Iturralde accepted the contact but not a clear push, noting players often use their hands to check a defender and that Carmo went down once he felt it, judging the goal legal.
