Real Madrid kept the LaLiga race alive with a 3-2 win over Atlético, and Barcelona edged Rayo 1-0. The relegation fight intensified as Elche beat Mallorca, Levante continued their push for survival, and Sevilla suffered another setback. They are only two points above the relegation zone.
As reported by as.com, the table without VAR after matchday 29 would look different, with several interventions shaping results.
At the RCD Stadium, VAR made a hat-trick of interventions. Espanyol had goals by Ngonge and Terrarts ruled out for offside, and a potential penalty for a Diego Rico handball was not given, the arm judged natural and close to his chest.
At the Martínez Valero, the technology alerted Alberola Rojas to a Bigas handball for a penalty, which Muriqi did not convert.
Semi-automatic offside was prominent at San Mamés, with two calls benefiting Athletic against Betis. First, Sancet’s goal was awarded, then in the second half Bakambu had a strike ruled out.
Elsewhere, interventions altered outcomes. In Real Sociedad 2-2 Espanyol, Puado scored a retaken penalty after Aramburu’s encroachment was detected. Sevilla 2-2 Elche saw Peque’s goal awarded for no offside, and in Getafe 2-1 Villarreal a foul by Viega on Luis Vázquez resulted in a penalty converted by Arambarri.
