Barcelona sealed La Liga with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou, confirming a second straight crown and the 29th in their history after a largely controlled campaign.
According to L'Équipe, they had been unchallenged leaders in recent weeks and have now retained the title for the first time since their 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 double.
A near-faultless start gave way to an autumn wobble around the first Clasico, yet rivals faltered and doubts faded. The 26 October defeat at the Bernabeu, 1-2, left Real five points clear. Since then Barcelona have taken 69 of 75, losing only at Real Sociedad on 18 January and at Girona on 16 February, both 1-2.
Lamine Yamal weathered a summer of off-field rows and early-season injuries that, he said in late February, dulled his smile. At 18 he delivered 16 goals and 12 assists in 28 Liga games despite weeks out, including the season’s end. He compensated for Robert Lewandowski’s gradual decline and Raphinha’s absences, broke Kylian Mbappé records for precocity, and won three player of the month awards in November, December and April, the first to do so in one season, not even Lionel Messi. Spain now hopes he is fit and at that level with the World Cup approaching.
Hansi Flick added the Supercopa, 3-2 against Real, and another Liga to 2025’s domestic treble. He stuck to a front-foot approach, 91 league goals in 35 rounds, installed Joan Garcia in goal and leaned on youth. A Champions League quarter-final exit to Atletico and a Copa del Rey semi, plus immaturity and recurring defensive issues, revived criticism. Under contract to 2027, he hopes for a swift extension and reinforcements to finish what he says will be his final project at the summit.
After beating Osasuna 2-1 last Saturday, Lewandowski said the side want to win their last three games to reach 100 points, matching the 2012-2013 benchmark. This title takes him to 13 league crowns in the past 16 seasons, two with Borussia Dortmund in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, eight in a row with Bayern Munich from 2014-2015 to 2021-2022, and three with Barcelona in 2022-2023, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. The exceptions were 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 at Dortmund, and 2023-2024 when Real Madrid finished ahead.
