Barcelona resumed training on Thursday after their Champions League draw at Newcastle United, but Lamine Yamal was absent. The 18-year-old had levelled from the penalty spot at St James’ Park on Tuesday.

He missed the session due to a fever, which is not expected to be a major issue for Sunday’s meeting with Sevilla, and MD reports he is likely to be available.

There was encouraging news after the exhausting outing against Newcastle. Ronald Araujo and Marc Bernal, both withdrawn in the final 15 minutes with sore muscles, appear to have suffered only cramp and have avoided injury.

Eric Garcia, who sat out the game with muscle discomfort, has been cleared of injury, described as only a muscle strain. He also worked separately on Thursday, doing physio instead of training with team-mates.

With injuries a concern, Hansi Flick has warned about the number of setbacks in recent weeks. Barca Atletic players Eder Aller, Tommy Marques, Alvaro Cortes and Xavi Espart joined the session.

Espart made his debut at Newcastle in an emergency when Araujo went off, and could get more minutes later on.

Barcelona remain without Alejandro Balde, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong, while there is hope Gavi will be available on Sunday. It leaves Flick with just five defenders including Garcia, and only three natural options at the base of midfield, including Bernal and Pedri, who both came off in the Champions League.
