Real Madrid were able to maintain their winning momentum in La Liga, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano this past weekend.

The match has become the centre of attention in Spain lately, following a series of refereeing debacles, which Barcelona claim gifted Real Madrid the win.

Even the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, did not hold back from pointing out these refereeing errors and openly criticising Real Madrid.

Laporta takes a dig at Real Madrid

In a recent interaction with the press, Laporta offered his thoughts on the Real Madrid – Rayo Vallecano game, pointing out the questionable moments.

“Rayo came out very badly damaged from that match. It was a match in which two players were sent off, and the game was extended by ten additional minutes when the score was tied.

“On top of that, a penalty was awarded in the last minute that, in my opinion, was incorrect,” he said (h/t AS).

Laporta, who is set to resign next Monday ahead of the Barcelona presidential election, added that Real Madrid having their hands on RMTV, which constantly puts pressure on referees by posting videos before each game, lends them a huge advantage in La Liga.

“What’s also happening is that it seems they favour a club that owns a television channel dedicated to explaining things that are out of place.

“It says that the referees are continuously and permanently harming their team, so it’s only natural for the reactions to be like this,” he said.

Laporta further made the point that Real Madrid players, thanks to this advantage, have now made a habit of diving inside the box.

“The Real Madrid players are getting used to diving inside the penalty area. They’re favouring the club that has a television channel dedicated to explaining things out of place,” Laporta added.

Finally, the Barcelona president asked why RMTV hasn’t yet made a deduction of the referee’s performances in the recent game against Rayo Vallecano.

“What does their channel say now, the one that claims all the referees are wronging their team? Didn’t it analyse anything from this?” he concluded.
