Arokodare strike secures vital victory over resilient Rwanda in Abuja
Late Drama in Abuja as Nigeria Keep 2026 Dream Alive
Nigeria boosted their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World cup after edging Rwanda 1 - 0 on Saturday in Abuja during Group C of the African qualifiers.
Substitute striker Tolu Arokodare proved the difference scoring just 6 minute after coming on in the second half (51). Despite dominating possession, the Super Eagles struggled to beat Rwanda’s outstanding goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari who pulled off multiple key saves.
Victor Osimhen thought he'd opened the scoring after only 8 minute but the goal was ruled out for offside. Ntwari then denied both Moses Simon & Alex Iwobi in the 1st half before keeping out efforts from Ademola Lookman & captain Wilfred Ndidi later in the game.
With this win, Nigeria move to 10 point from 7 match sitting 3rd behind South Africa (16 point) & Benin (11 point).
The Super Eagles now face crucial away clash against South Africa on Tuesday while Benin will host Lesotho.
