Chelsea’s summer has started fast in terms of purchases, and now it seems the sales are getting into gear.
Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens are all done deals or close to being done. Departures have been a little slower, but one by one the dominoes are starting to fall, with Kepa Arrizabalaga announced as gone yesterday.
The rush is yet to come, however.
Fabrizio Romano’s report on Bayern Munich adding Renato Veiga to their shortlist.
Next to leave could be Renato Veiga, if you believe top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
He claims that the Portugal international has been added to Bayern Munich’s shortlist of players to potentially sign at the back.
Any move would be dependent on them moving on Kim Min-Jae, something they’ve been looking to do for a while. Even if Bayern don’t end up making the most, however, there are apparently “several clubs keen” on the former Basel player.
Once he was left out of the Club World Cup squad, it was clear he was moving on this summer – now it’s just a question of where he goes.
Chelsea paid around €12m for Veiga from Basel a year ago, and he featured regularly as a backup for the Blues, before moving to Juventus on loan in January as he sought more first team games to help his case to be a starter for Portugal at next summer’s World Cup.
He looked good for the Italian giants too, both domestically and in the Champions League, and Chelsea should be looking to make a solid profit if we sell him after that. €30m is what we speculated we would look for, and if Bayern offered €25m, we suspect we’d take it.
