Lazio are reportedly one of three Serie A clubs trying to lure FC Köln youngster Alessandro Puzzo to the Italian peninsula.
The 18-year-old is a German attacking midfielder of Italian origins. He has been developing his skills at Köln , who have one of the most prosperous academies in Germany. Puzzo is currently considered one of the finest young talents at the club, as proven by his impressive stats for the U19 side this season. He has thus far contributed with five goals and seven assists in 17 appearances in all competitions.
According to Fussball Transfers, the teenager has attracted three Serie A suitors in the shape of Atalanta, Bologna and Lazio. With the player’s contract expiring at the end of the season, he will be free to negotiate a move with any club starting next year, which represents an enticing opportunity for his suitors.
It should be noted that Italian football has newly adopted a new rule that exempts the costs of U23 Italian players (transfer fees and salaries) from the clubs’ financial accounts, giving Serie A sides an additional incentive to invest in local youngsters.
While Puzzo has yet to represent either Germany or Italy at the international level, his eligibility to play for the Azzurri alone is sufficient to trigger the aforementioned financial exemption.
