Lazio have been handed a fresh concern as Elseid Hysaj succumbed to an injury during Albania’s World Cup qualifier against England.
The 31-year-old started against The Three Lions in what was an insignificant contest held at Arena Kombëtare in Tirana. Thomas Tuchel’s men had already booked their place in next summer’s tournament, while the Albanians had guaranteed a second-place finish that earned them a spot in the play-offs in March.
Nevertheless, Albania coach Sylvinho insisted on fielding a strong starting XI against England, and this included Hysaj at right-back. However, the Lazio player only lasted 26 minutes before leaving the pitch. According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the former Empoli and Napoli full-back sustained a hamstring injury.

Hysaj will now return to Rome to undergo the necessary clinical check-ups. The extent of his injury will become clearer afterwards. In the meantime, Sarri will be hoping that his longtime pupil avoids a lengthy stoppage, even though he hasn’t been playing regularly this season.
The Albanian has only made three Serie A appearances this season, with only one as a starter. Even during Nuno Tavares’ absence, Hysaj’s playing time didn’t improve, as Sarri kept rotating between Manuel Lazzari and Luca Pellegrini, with Adam Marusic confirmed as a regular starter. The latter has been playing on either flank, depending on the identity of the other full-back.
