According to Sportitalia, Paris FC have agreed a permanent deal with Brighton for Diego Coppola, ending Lazio’s pursuit of the centre-back.

The Biancocelesti have agreed to sell Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd and Mario Gila to AC Milan. They now need at least one new centre-back to join Oliver Provstgaard, Patric and Samuel Gigot.

Coppola had been high on their shortlist in recent weeks. The 22-year-old was said to be keen on reuniting with former national team coach Gennaro Gattuso, and has been tracked since his Hellas Verona days.

He joined Brighton last summer in a £10 million move that did not work out as hoped. After struggling to settle, he spent the second half of the season on loan at Paris FC, where he became a regular.

With Coppola heading back to the French capital club, Lazio will pivot to alternatives. Chief among them is 21-year-old Spaniard Sergi Dominguez, their primary target since the start of the summer. It remains to be seen whether they can strike a deal with Dinamo Zagreb for the Barcelona academy product.
