“I met De Rossi and Totti as footballers. Honestly, we happened to meet in restaurants. They politely stood up and came to say hello. There was respect for the person, there was no rivalry between us,” said Lotito of his rapport with the two legendary Roma players.

“De Rossi was definitely someone tied to the history of Roma and who care very much about his relationship with his favourite team,” he added.

“There was an identity, there was a continuous symbiosis between players and club,” he continued, when asked about De Rossi’s brief managerial spell at Roma.

“However, I don’t know what the relationships were with the owners and the dressing room, so I can’t express myself on the correctness of the decision. I can say that he was very attached to those colours.”
