Lazio ‘urge Brentford to sign’ Gustav Isaksen, Bees prefer Matteo Cancellieri | OneFootball

According to Il Tempo, Lazio have urged Brentford to sign Gustav Isaksen instead, but the Premier League side only want Matteo Cancellieri.

Despite selling last season’s stars Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, Brentford are fifth in the Premier League and pushing for a historic European berth, so they aim to strengthen in January.

The Bees have been monitoring Cancellieri. They reportedly scouted him on Wednesday against Fiorentina and plan to watch him again on Sunday against Hellas Verona. The 23-year-old returned from a Parma loan in the summer and has been one of Lazio’s most influential players.

Isaksen’s season has been interrupted by form and fitness issues, and Maurizio Sarri is thought to be open to selling the Dane for the right price.

Cancellieri and Isaksen are Sarri’s two main options on the right flank, although recurring injuries and other health problems, particularly for the Dane, have limited direct choices. Both will start against Verona on Sunday because Mattia Zaccagni is out, with one switching to the left.
