Lazio host AC Milan on Sunday evening, and a combined XI in a 3-5-1-1 shows how far apart they are. According to The Laziali, only two Aquile make Allegri’s line-up.
Milan arrive in Rome with a 23-point advantage after 28 matchdays, almost an extra point per round over the capital club.
Mike Maignan starts in goal, his saves a pillar of Milan’s Scudetto hopes, behind a back three of Fikayo Tomori, Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli. Tomori brings reliability, Milan’s interest in Gila is telling, and Romagnoli is preferred for composure, leadership and experience despite the physical tools attributed to Strahinja Pavlovic.
Alexis Saelemaekers is preferred to Adam Marusic at right wing-back. In midfield, Youssouf Fofana and Adrien Rabiot flank Luka Modric as deep-lying playmaker, with Toma Basic, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Kenneth Taylor and Nicolo Rovella left out.
Davide Bartesaghi edges the left wing-back spot over Nuno Tavares and Pervis Estupinan, despite Estupinan deciding the Derby della Madonnina last weekend, the pair are viewed as underachieving over the season while Bartesaghi has shone. Christian Pulisic operates behind Rafael Leao, who leads the line despite not being a natural centre-forward and not at his best, with both sides short of consistent scorers and several alternatives judged to have underperformed.
