Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen is enjoying his time under the guidance of Marco Baroni, explaining why something was amiss in his relationships with Maurizio Sarri and Igor Tudor.

The Dane completed a move from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2023. He started his Biancocelesti career under the guidance of Sarri. And just when his playing time was increasing, a managerial change in March proved to be a real blow to his young Lazio career, as was reduced to a mere benchwarmer during Tudor’s reign.

Lazio Winger Gustav Isaksen Dwells On His Great Relationship With Marco Baroni

Luckily for the 23-year-old, the Croatian only spent three months at Formello before vacating his post, otherwise, he would have likely been sold in the summer. Nevertheless, Isaksen found a new lease on life in the Italian capital since the arrival of Baroni, and he explains why he feels much more at ease with the approach of his new manager (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

I need a coach who talks to me and tells me what to do. The first two coaches I had didn’t communicate much. Now, Mister Baroni and I are in constant contact. He comes to me after every game and tells me what I did wrong and what I did well. I think I need this type of relationship, it gives me a sense of security and allows me to grow in a different way. It’s strange how big of a change it can make. Now at Lazio, people are wondering if we can really win a trophy. I feel like we can compete and annoy all the teams in the league.

The Italian Experience

Isaksen also admitted it was difficult for him to leave his family and friends in Denmark behind and move to Italy.

Living in Italy is not as easy as living in Aarhus, where I have friends and family close by. Some days are harder than others, and obviously, I miss my folks in Denmark. But this it’s a great experience and I feel like I’m learning something new every day. Now I feel good and I’m enjoying the moment. The whole experience becomes easier when you’re playing and wining.
