A two goal win over Everton got Manchester City’s League Cup campaign off to a strong start. Goals from Jade Rose, Yui Hasegawa and Vivianne Miedema saw Andree Jeglertz’s side take all three points from their opening game in the competition. Hikaru Kitagawa snatched a late consolation for the Toffees, reducing the deficit to two goals in the 82nd minute.

How it went

On the stroke of 20 minutes Jade Rose broke the deadlock, bagging her first goal for her new side. The Canadian international joined Manchester City from Harvard Crimson on a four year deal. Her goal was the Sky Blues ninth of the season with all of their goals scored by different scorers.

The remainder of the first half passed with relatively little action. Whilst the hosts enjoyed more of the possession, they were unable to take their chances in the Everton box. In the 52nd minute Yui Hasegawa made it two to the hosts, finding the back of the net after a piece of poor defending from the Toffees.

With just 13 minutes left to play, Vivianne Miedema found the back of Emily Ramsey’s net to put the hosts three goals ahead. The 82nd minute saw Hikaru Kitagawa open the visitors scoring for the evening, capitalising on a string of defensive errors from the hosts.

Up next

Manchester City will host London City Lionesses ahead of their blockbuster clash with Arsenal at the Joie Stadium. Everton will face back to back away days, first facing Brighton before travelling to take on Leicester.
