Benfica are preparing for the league resumption with Leandro Barreiro a doubt, though there remains hope he could feature against Casa Pia on Monday, six April.
Record writes that José Mourinho has accepted the midfielder is carrying some limitations, yet believes he could recover in time to be included in the squad.
Since returning from the international break, the Luxembourg international has trained with restrictions, and his potential call-up is under close consideration from Benfica’s coaching staff.
Benfica will continue without the injured Fredrik Aursnes, whose comeback is targeted for 12 April.
Barreiro has become an important option for Mourinho, who views the Luxembourg player as a profile that fits his requirements, particularly alongside Aursnes, the duo he trusts most.
Signed last season on a free from Mainz, Barreiro’s game time was irregular under Roger Schmidt, then Bruno Lage. With Mourinho’s arrival, he moved from inconsistent substitute to near ever-present.
This season he has made 44 competitive appearances for Benfica, 25 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 13 in the Liga dos Campeões, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,491 minutes, he has four goals and five assists.
