Lecce have submitted an “official bid” for a new fullback as negotiations continue with Manchester United over the transfer of wingback Patrick Dorgu.

Fabrizio Romano reveals the Serie A side have tabled an offer for Danilo Veiga – a 22-year-old defender for Estrela Amadora in Liga Portugal – amid reports indicating the Red Devils had seen their own bid for Dorgu rejected.

However, as relayed by The Peoples Person, talks between United and Lecce will continue with the prospect of a second offer this week.

The Italian club are believed to be holding out for €40 million (£34 million) while their Manchester counterparts’ opening proposal was worth €27 million with add-ons.

Serie A table toppers Napoli are also interested in Dorgu, explaining why Lecce are adamant they will not budge on their valuation as they hope to establish a bidding war between the two continental heavyweights.

An agreement between Dorgu and United is expected to be a formality with the Danish international open to a move to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is also reported to have given his approval for the Reds to target the 20-year-old starlet as officials seek to buttress the Portuguese coach’s squad with a much-needed option at left wingback.

And Romano’s update that Lecce are intent on signing a new fullback this month, with a comparable level of positional versatility to Dorgu, suggests Amorim may be moving closer and closer to finding his new option on the left.

Tweet: “Lecce have submitted an official bid for Estrela Amadora’s fullback Danilo Veiga. Portugal U21 talent also in the list of Sporting CP and Braga, Lecce now in direct club to club talks.”

The Italian transfer guru reveals Lecce have “submitted an official bid” for Veiga – a Portugal U21 fullback  also capable of playing in midfield – who is wanted by Liga Portugal giants’ Sporting CP and Braga; ironically, both former clubs of Amorim.

The Serie A side are “now in direct club to club talks” with Estrela Amadora, indicating a strong intention to agree a move before the transfer window closes.

And this bodes well for United’s chances of striking their own deal for Dorgu as Lecce look to sign a potential replacement for the 20-year-old to soften the blow of his departure.
