After a month, Roma returned to winning ways, doing so at home against Lecce. Match winner Robinio Vaz scored his first goal for the Giallorossi, assisted by Hermoso.
After the match, the Salento coach and former Giallorossi player, Eusebio Di Francesco, spoke to Sky Sport.
On Hermoso’s save and Vaz’s goal: “It was a double chance in the same play. It’s a shame because creating opportunities in Roma isn’t easy, against a strong and organized team like theirs.”
“We conceded a goal in a situation where they were very good, with Hermoso having extra time to cross, waiting for the defender to go down. They did well, and we were certainly a bit naive in conceding that cross too easily. We had the opportunities to get the game back on track, not conceding too much to a furious Roma throughout the match, but also perhaps creating too little.”
“Robinio Vaz caused a lot of trouble for our defense. He waited for us to score. He’s young, but you can see he’s strong: it’s clear why an investment was made in him.”
Di Francesco continued: “They have a style of play that creates difficulties with a back four. Sometimes the center back struggles to get out, facing a striker like Malen who always looks for space. That said, I don’t want to say there’s a single individual fault for the goal, perhaps a late exit in midfield, where we should have been supporting the movement. We allowed Hermoso to run inside too easily. We could have defended her better, especially given what we’re used to doing in training.”
