Leeds United honoured club great Mick Jones at half-time of Saturday's meeting with Brentford, and he paid tribute to the Elland Road crowd.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Revie Boy, who scored more than 100 goals in the club's most successful era, was presented on the pitch with a lifetime achievement award and the inaugural heritage cap.
Jones said he wished he were playing, spoke of Elland Road's unique feel, and described the fanbase as the best in the country, every bit as passionate now as then.
He reflected on a great team under a great manager and said it was a pleasure to be back. He hoped Leeds could find a goal after the interval to secure three points.
The heritage cap is part of Marching on Forever, the club's new former players' association, and Jones was the first recipient. He said the keepsake would be treasured by his family and carefully looked after.
