Leeds United have formally begun the Elland Road enhancement, with work on the West Stand now under way. The club said in a statement that the project’s start marks a momentous moment in the stadium’s 106-year history.

Early activity includes demolition of the old ticket office and LUTV studio, and partial removal of the banqueting suite behind the West Stand. Floodlights to the rear have been taken down and a temporary hospitality structure is rising behind the Kop.

Club executives, the Leeds United Foundation and Leeds City Council representatives attended a ceremony alongside ambassadors Stuart Dallas, Tony Dorigo and Eddie Gray.

The new West Stand will be constructed over the existing structure, described as the first phase in turning Elland Road into a UEFA Category four venue.

Expanding capacity is deemed vital, with the Season Ticket waiting list now 32,000. The project is presented as a platform to bid with civic partners for major international tournaments and showcase events, bringing cultural and economic benefits to the Leeds City Region.

Supporters are promised improved seating, sightlines and comfort throughout the new stand, better concourses and fan areas in and around the ground, a more inclusive and accessible environment and upgraded hospitality.

Leeds also argue that a modernised Elland Road will strengthen recruitment by providing a stage suited to elite-level football. Regular updates are planned during construction.
