Leeds United earned a resolute 0-0 draw at Anfield on New Year’s Day, extending their unbeaten run to six matches with a superb defensive display against the reigning Premier League champions. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, a slightly rotated side kept Liverpool at arm’s length.
It was the second draw between the clubs in three weeks. Leeds created little before half-time but defended diligently as chances were rare.
Liverpool’s clearest opening saw Hugo Ekitike head from close range, the ball bouncing off Lucas Perri’s head. Ethan Ampadu also tested Alisson from long range after a mistake from the goalkeeper.
The pattern barely shifted after the interval. Daniel Farke’s men sat deep, Liverpool dominated possession but struggled to fashion clear chances, and the visitors resisted late pressure to claim their point.
Player ratings reflected the rearguard. Perri took six, with only a couple of saves, mixed kicking and safe handling of crosses. James Justin was outstanding with nine, defending tirelessly and impressing on the ball, then looking assured when moved into centre-back late on.
Sebastiaan Bornauw earned eight for a very steady full debut, showing aerial strength and causing problems in the Liverpool area. Jaka Bijol also scored eight after a physical, front-foot display with one first-half scare, while Pascal Struijk matched eight and Gabriel Gudmundsson registered seven after a testing start against Frimpong.
