Leeds United are closing in on a £40m deal for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, a move that would break the club’s transfer record.
yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands a package worth £40m plus add-ons is close, with personal terms largely agreed and only final details to sort.
If completed, the fee would surpass the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter in January 2023.
It would also further cement Trafford’s status as England’s costliest goalkeeper, a distinction he already holds after a £31m move to City a year ago.
Such a price would place him among the most expensive goalkeeper transfers worldwide, underlining Leeds’ ambition, if the move is finalised.
