Leeds United left Selhurst Park with a hard-earned point that could prove significant in their Premier League survival push, yet the mood was tinged with anger at the officiating.
In the first half Thomas Bramall dismissed Gabriel Gudmundsson. After the break Brennan Johnson, already booked, escaped a second yellow for an even worse challenge. Leeds played with 10 men, kept a clean sheet and matched West Ham United and Nottingham Forest. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk notes that there was a sense of injustice.
Ethan Ampadu set the tone, snapping into duels and keeping his head to marshal the 10 men. Karl Darlow produced two excellent reflex stops, one later ruled offside, and his kicking relieved pressure. Pascal Struijk defended his box stoutly, particularly after the interval.
Bramall’s consistency was questioned, with Gudmundsson booked twice for two fouls while Johnson committed four and saw one yellow, and the official’s apparent forgetfulness was said to have changed the game. Jean Philippe-Mateta was booed on and made little impact. Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed three chances, including a poor penalty.
Oliver Glasner bristled in a spiky press conference, declined to discuss the referee and pushed back at calls for more entertainment. Off camera, Leeds keeper coach Ed Wootten mimed a huddle around a smiling Bramall before kick-off, and sponsors saluted the wrong end. Glasner later urged calm with 20 minutes left, and at full-time Ethan Ampadu chatted with Brennan Johnson, Daniel Farke lifted Ao Tanaka and the dismissed Gudmundsson acknowledged the away end.
