According to Teamtalk, the Whites are among the clubs keen on the goalkeeper after he has struggled for game time in Pep Guardiola's first team squad.

Trafford earned a lot of plaudits for his performances for Burnley last season, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League.

This led to the shot-stopper making his return to Man City in a deal worth a reported £27 million, having come through their academy system.

But the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma in the closing stages of the summer market led to the 23-year-old falling down the pecking order at the Etihad.

Leeds United target James Trafford

It was previously reported in September that both Leicester and Southampton are interested in Trafford amid his lack of game time at Man City.

Leeds are now among the clubs targeting the goalkeeper ahead of the next summer window, with Daniel Farke keen to bolster his options between the sticks.

The Yorkshire outfit are fighting for their survival in the top flight, and it’s believed that staying in the Premier League will afford them the chance to invest in the first team squad, which could open the door to sign Trafford.

However, they may also face competition from Aston Villa, with the future of Emiliano Martinez uncertain going into the end of the campaign.

It’s understood that Man City value Trafford at the £30 million mark, which could prevent Leicester and Southampton from competing for his signature, particularly if they remain in the Championship next season.

Given the Foxes are currently 21st in the table, it’s difficult to see the team fighting for promotion this season, while the Saints are not faring much better in 14th.

These two sides face each other this evening at the King Power Stadium in a 7.45pm kick-off.

The ship may have sailed for Leicester, Southampton and James Trafford

Leicester’s current league position suggests they will be doing well to be in the Championship next season following the six point deduction they received.

Meanwhile, the Saints could still earn a top six finish but they will need a strong end to the campaign to make a return to the Premier League.

And if neither club can offer top flight football to Trafford, then it’s difficult to foresee him signing for either side.

He proved himself as a Premier League calibre player at Burnley, even if he’s struggled for game time at Man City, and Leeds may be able to offer him that if they survive this term.
