Kerim Alajbegovic has spent the past season announcing himself to European football in the most convincing way possible. The 18-year-old featured in 44 matches for RB Salzburg across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and adding four assists in what was a truly standout campaign for a teenager still finding his footing at senior level. His performances also proved crucial for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as he contributed one goal and four assists across seven World Cup qualifying games, helping his country secure a place at the 2026 tournament in North America. According to Sport Witness, Leeds United have entered the picture as genuine contenders to sign him this summer.
Leeds United have already met with the representatives of the Bosnia international for talks, as reported by the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones. Bayer Leverkusen activated a £7 million buy-back clause following Alajbegovic’s stellar season in Austria, meaning any club wishing to sign him must negotiate with the German side.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Napoli, AS Roma and Inter Milan are all showing serious interest in the winger, and the competition is only expected to intensify once the World Cup begins. Recent reports from April 2026 have consistently valued a potential transfer at over €30 million, with multiple Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United also circling.
The question for Farke is not whether Alajbegovic is worth pursuing, but whether Leeds can genuinely compete. Farke has already threatened to quit Leeds should his transfer ambitions not be matched by the club, which tells you how seriously he takes this window. Leeds finished 14th last season and need significant improvement in the final third, and a player described as pure quality and a joy to watch by scout Jacek Kulig fits precisely what Farke needs.

This is a fascinating situation that demands clear thinking rather than blind ambition. Farke knows Leeds United need attacking quality badly, and this teenager offers exactly that. But the honest reality is that chasing a player wanted by Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan, clubs playing Champions League football next season, is a battle Leeds will almost certainly lose if it turns into a bidding war past £20 million. The smarter move for Farke is to use Leeds’ existing relationship and the early talks as leverage to present a compelling sporting project now, before the World Cup inflates Alajbegovic’s value further and brings even more clubs into the race.
With Ermedin Demirovic also linked to Leeds, there is a real opportunity to present a Bosnian connection as a genuine selling point. Players talk on international duty, and a familiar face already at Elland Road could tip the balance. Farke should make a decisive move before the tournament, agree personal terms quickly, and put a firm offer on the table to Leverkusen. Waiting means losing. Leeds United cannot offer European football, but they can offer a clear starting role, a defined project, and a manager who genuinely develops young talent. That argument, made early and made convincingly, remains Farke’s best chance.
