Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier could return to his former club Lorient today, according to The Times journalist Peter Rutzler.

The Whites have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon this summer, and Meslier could be allowed to leave.

The 25-year-old, who has made 215 appearances for the Elland Road club, is also on Valencia’s radar, but Lorient are in talks to bring him back.

The Frenchman has yet to make an appearance this term as he is not in manager Daniel Farke’s plans.

Meslier has been unable to permanently eliminate the mistakes from his game since joining the Yorkshire club in 2020.

He remains capable of making incredible saves and producing eye-catching performances on his day, but he continues to struggle with the very basics of goalkeeping.

Meslier was once tipped to become a senior France international during his first stint in the Premier League, but he has since suffered a significant dip in form.

Leeds are unlikely to sign a replacement if Meslier leaves, with Karl Darlow available to provide quality cover for Perri.

The 34-year-old was in goal when Leeds played Sheffield Wednesday in the second round of the League Cup last week.

Farke has had no room for sentiment since Leeds returned to the Premier League, as evidenced by his brutal axing of striker Patrick Bamford. His contract was terminated last week.
