Leeds United are closing on a move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford that, if completed, would break the club’s transfer record.
yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands that an agreement worth £40 million plus add-ons is nearing completion, with personal terms largely agreed and final details to conclude.
If the transfer is finalised, Trafford would surpass the £35.5 million paid for Georginio Rutter in January 2023 to become Leeds’ record signing.
It would also reinforce Trafford’s standing as England’s most expensive goalkeeper, a status he already holds after his £31 million switch to City last year.
Such an outlay would place the Elland Road target among the costliest goalkeepers worldwide, underlining Leeds’ ambition.
