Leeds United could pursue legal action against Leicester City following last week's Premier League ruling that ordered Everton to pay more than £35m to Burnley.

According to The Times, Leeds are considering their options in light of the Everton case.

Leicester pipped Leeds to automatic promotion in 2023/24 under Enzo Maresca, finishing top while Daniel Farke's side amassed 90 points but ended behind them and Ipswich Town.

Leeds then lost the play-off final to Southampton. In February, the EFL docked Leicester six points for PSR breaches across the three years up to 2023/24, a deduction that ultimately played a part in their relegation to League One.

Elland Road chiefs previously reached an out-of-court settlement with Everton over the 2021/22 campaign, when Leeds finished one place below the Toffees. Burnley, relegated that season, continued their claim and have since been promoted then immediately relegated again.

In the Everton case, the panel concluded the breach materially affected Burnley's prospects of survival, and Everton argued the outcome set a dangerous and unworkable precedent that may prompt further claims.

Any Leeds move via the Premier League's independent disciplinary commission would need to show on the balance of probabilities that Leicester's breach harmed their promotion hopes. Leicester finished seven points clear, and Leeds won both league meetings.
