Leeds United appear unlikely to return for Harry Wilson, with attention instead on Switzerland winger Ruben Vargas. According to Leedunited.com, the Whites are reportedly targeting the 58-cap international as an alternative.

Vargas plays in La Liga for Sevilla and is in strong form, with seven goals and assists in 12 league games this season. He would offer versatility across Daniel Farke’s front line.

He would reportedly cost £17m, likely a cheaper option than Wilson. As an established player across top European leagues, he could add experience as well as goal threat to a side that has lacked a cutting edge at times.

Leeds’ form has improved recently, after a spell when questions were asked of Farke and his attacking set-up. In recent weeks, new signings Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have begun to flourish, helping the team pick up points more regularly.

With pressure eased, the German coach can look to the January window, and Vargas could be one option to aid their bid to retain Premier League status. Augsburg hailed him as a major Swiss talent when they signed him in 2020, and he made more than 150 appearances before joining Sevilla in January 2025.
