Leeds United have perhaps not had the start to the 2024/25 campaign that supporters had hoped for, and a lot of pressure has been placed on Daniel Farke to turn the situation around.

The former Norwich City manager arrived at Elland Road in July 2023, and despite taking the Whites to the play-off final at Wembley back in May, they failed to return to the Premier League after losing to Southampton.

This season has been one of relative woe so far, with Leeds currently sitting 9th in the Championship table after five matches, winning twice, drawing twice and losing the other to Burnley last weekend.

The increasing noise surrounding Farke has led to many supporters looking at who they want to take over the club if he is sacked, with West Bromwich Albion's manager, Carlos Corberan, one of the names that has been popping up a lot recently.

It was revealed on Wednesday by Football Insider that the Spaniard has a £2 million release clause in his Baggies contract, something that could be extremely enticing to the Leeds board.

Farke is failing to impress and Corberan is the perfect replacement

West Brom are currently top of the Championship, and remain unbeaten following the first five games of the season, a position that most of the Elland Road faithful believe that they should probably be in themselves.

Corberan has been able to work with his squad excellently to carry over the momentum that they had from 2023/24 into the new campaign, but he has also developed his players over the summer, in particular Josh Maja, who has been prolific since the start of August.

A master tactician, his style of football is extremely adaptable and is something that has frustrated Leeds in the past. If Farke continues to struggle with a talented squad, then the 47-year-old may have to be replaced.

Football League World's Leeds Fan Pundit, Kris Smith, believes that Corberan is the perfect man to take over in West Yorkshire if his club does sack their current manager in the coming weeks.

"I don't suspect for a minute at the moment that the 49ers are planning to pull the trigger on Farke anytime soon," Kris began.

"But, coming into this season after missing out on promotion last season, the pressure will start to mount if he can't get Leeds into a position where they are in the top two and looking quite comfortable and likely to go up.

"This team that Farke has got in the Championship should be comfortably in the top 2 and producing results is the only thing that Farke should be judged on. It doesn't matter about the performances, it's getting this team over the line.

"As for replacements, I do think if Leeds were to pull the trigger, Carlos Corberan would be perfect in my opinion.

"Given his main strength is how adaptable he is from game to game in the Championship and working with players that you wouldn't place at the top end of the Championship, that is something that screams out as spot on for me and what we would need to go to the next level," he continued.

"Leeds fans won’t have been too impressed with what they've seen from the Spaniard and his West Brom side have produced during our encounters since we've been relegated, given how defensive they've been.

"But Corberan’s brilliance comes in how he caters his side to who he's playing against and given our superiority and the players that we've got, it makes sense that he settled defensively, and we haven't beat them, so he's doing a good job on us.

"Their quality comes out against teams they are superior to, and they did that against Portsmouth at the weekend. That sort of tactical flexibility is what makes him a Premier League manager in waiting. It's going to happen sooner rather than later.

"If that £2 million release clause is to be believed, it's the best investment you could possibly make as a Championship club."

Farke has been given the vote of confidence for now

Despite the restlessness at Elland Road, it seems like, for now, that Farke will hold on to his job. Football Insider reported on Wednesday that Farke is safe currently, but a continuation of poor results and performances could spell the end to his year-long stay in West Yorkshire, just months after he came so close to bringing the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, there is another international break coming up soon, starting on October 6. This could give the Leeds board ample time to sack the German, and bring in a new manager, potentially Corberan.

It's an extremely important stage of the season for clubs in the Championship as the table slowly starts to take shape, and Farke has the perfect opportunity to begin a good run of form on Saturday against bottom club Cardiff City.

Erol Bulut is another manager fighting to stay in his role, and it could be an almighty clash in South Wales this weekend as both teams look for a result to properly kick-start their campaigns.
