Leicester City are believed to be lining up a transfer worth £8m for Valentin Gomez, the Argentine centre-back who plays for Velez Sarsfield.

Ruud van Nistelrooy understands the pretty important task on his hands - He needs to improve the Leicester City defence. Since his arrival as manager, the Foxes have conceded 10 goals in four matches. This is simply not good enough, for any team.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has experimented with his defence. He recognised the need to make changes and he did so, after taking charge from Steve Cooper.

Perhaps the boldest move made by RvN was to instantly drop Wout Faes to the bench. However, he needs a new and strong centre-back candidate to come in and compete for the first-team slot.

According to a report from The Sun, Leicester City hope to sign Valentin Gomez from Velez Sarsfield for a bargain £8m fee. This could be one of a few additions made by Leicester, as RvN will hope to implement his own signings to complete his project at Leicester.

Valentin Gomez is just 21 years old, so he is a bright prospect. Despite his age, he has been in the Velez Sarsfield first-team since 2022. Since then, he has amassed over 70 league appearances.

Gomez is yet to make his senior Argentina debut. However, much like Facundo Buonanotte (who has played for Argentina), Gomez has produced some impressive development in the Argentina U20 side.

As it stands, Leicester City would like to build for next season with being in the Premier League at the back of their mind. While they are in a position of safety as it stands, they did not help themselves at the weekend by losing to Wolves, allowing Wolves to climb up to within just two points of them.
