Leicester City are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Leicester City are targeting the return of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen before the close of the winter transfer window on Monday, according to reports.

The Foxes, who are currently without a permanent manager following the sacking of former Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes last week, have endured a very tough campaign after relegation from the Premier League last season.

City succumbed to a 2-0 loss at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon under interim head coach Andy King as they further became embroiled in the second-tier relegation battle, and they look to be in desperate need of reinforcements.

It is now believed that one player they are seeking to bring in to the King Power Stadium is that of Hermansen, who only departed the club last summer.

According to journalist Jacob Steinberg, Leicester are interested in signing Mads Hermansen from West Ham on loan for the remainder of this season — just months after cashing in on his services.

Steinberg has also reported that other Championship clubs alongside Leicester are interested in bringing in the Danish shot-stopper, who is desperate for game-time after his move to the London Stadium has not gone to plan since he joined for £20 million.

It is claimed that West Ham are currently hesitant to do a deal but, as it is a FIFA World Cup year, Hermansen needs regular football to cement a spot in the Denmark squad, should they qualify for the tournament.

Denmark failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup automatically, but do have the UEFA play-offs to fall back on, which are taking place during the March international break.

The speculation surrounding Hermansen comes after West Ham were linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky last week, but that particular swap deal has failed to materialise.

Having joined Leicester in the summer of 2023, when under the management of Enzo Maresca, Hermansen performed extremely well as he helped the Foxes win the Championship title.

He also put in some eye-catching performances last season in the Premier League, prompting West Ham to plump for the Dane upon Leicester’s rather humbling relegation.

However, beginning the season under the soon-to-be sacked Graham Potter as the ‘number one’, Hermansen struggled throughout the early stages and was eventually dropped, with replacement manager Nuno Espirito Santo preferring Alphonse Areola as his first-choice.

At the King Power, veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was brought in on a free transfer, but Jakub Stolarczyk was the man promoted to replace Hermansen, but he's currently somewhat struggling in-between the sticks at the King Power Stadium — hence why there is interest in a return for Hermansen.

The 25-year-old had a great time at Leicester in his first stint there, but with the Foxes struggling on the pitch, it may be a situation that Hermansen isn't so keen to come back to.
