Leicester City ‘to eye’ loan for Sunderland’s Dan Neil in January

The Sun reports that Leicester City have identified Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil as a potential January loan target after limited minutes since the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was a key figure under Régis Le Bris last term, making 44 appearances as Sunderland went up via the Championship play-offs.

The report adds West Bromwich Albion are also keen, while Coventry City were linked earlier this month.

Neil’s short-term prospects are uncertain, as he could get opportunities in the coming weeks with Sunderland’s midfield options reduced by players away at AFCON.

That may make Sunderland reluctant to sanction a loan, though the player may yet seek a move to play regularly elsewhere.
