Palmeiras president Leila Pereira says the club aim to leave Libra, citing disunity among teams. “Palmeiras’ objective is to leave Libra,” she said, adding that she would await the next steps from a league organised by the CBF, she told PalmeirasTV.
She stressed they are not set to join FFU, and recalled a 2022 meeting to build a single league, which she now calls romantic. She said clubs pulled in different directions, forming two economic blocs to negotiate broadcasting, and argued the league needs the CBF. She added that some even see themselves as the Real Madrid of the Americas, delivered with irony.
Her comments followed Flamengo securing R$ 150 million over four years from Libra’s broadcast rights. Although she opposed that payment to Mengão, she signed off on it, saying it would be best for the group. She still wants Palmeiras to leave the bloc.
Pereira also discussed Flamengo’s partnership with Fluminense in the Maracanã concession, and she questioned the agreement that allows concerts at the stadium.
She rounded off with a playful dig at journalists she feels defend Flamengo, the Libertadores four-time winners, in the media.
