Lens moved within one point of Paris Saint-Germain by beating Metz 3-0 on matchday 25, as Monaco won 3-1 in Paris. How long Lens can sustain this remains unclear, with a testing April bringing the Lille derby on 4 April then PSG on 11 April.
Nantes lost again at La Beaujoire, 1-0 to Angers, and are second-bottom on 17 points. According to Le Progres, they have four wins in 13 home games and, with close to 70% defeats, are the worst home side in Europe’s top five leagues.
Monaco’s turnaround has been swift. On 24 January after round 19 they were winless in five, 10th and 14 points off the podium following a 0-0 at Le Havre. They now have four straight wins, having beaten Lens 3-2 and PSG 3-1, and sit six points from the podium.
Auxerre coach Christophe Pélissier condemned the officiating after the 0-0 with Strasbourg, saying players are booked when they try to speak. He also argued his side merited a first-half penalty for a foul on Lassine Sinayoko, with one later awarded against them.
About 1,000 Marseille fans travelled to Toulouse for Saturday’s 1-0 win, three days after a cup exit to the same opponents. They unveiled a banner reading, “Vous êtes des merdes”.
Corentin Tolisso’s stoppage-time penalty salvaged Lyon a 1-1 draw with Paris FC. After defeats by Strasbourg 3-1 and Marseille 3-2, plus a Coupe de France exit to Lens on penalties after a 2-2 draw, they are fourth, behind OM on goal difference and three clear of Rennes, 4-0 winners at Nice.
