Léo Ortiz leads the centre-back assist charts in Série A since his Flamengo debut, after his pass set up the winner at Barradão to take him to five.

Globo.com notes that no other centre-back has matched his tally since April 2024, with Ferraresi on 4 and Alexander Barboza, Brítez and Gustavo Gómez on 3.

Flamengo’s first team have conceded nine goals in six matches this season, drawing criticism towards the defence. Ortiz, dubbed the back line’s number 10 by Zico in 2025, has not been spared.

Ortiz made two assists in 2024, for Ayrton Lucas in the 4-2 win against Atlético-MG at the Arena MRV and for Bruno Henrique in the 4-1 loss to Botafogo at Nilton Santos. In 2025 he set up Pedro for the 1-0 Fla-Flu victory, then Arrascaeta in the 5-0 win over Fortaleza. This week he supplied Cebolinha in the 2-1 success at Vitória.

Nearing two years at the club, he recently reached 100 appearances, a mark hit in last week’s 1-1 draw with Inter. He has six goals and six trophies for Flamengo and marked the milestone on social media, calling the experience a unique privilege, pledging to work for more honours and thanking those who support him.

Flamengo chase a second clean sheet of 2026 on Sunday against Botafogo, 17:30 Brasília time at Nilton Santos, with a place in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final at stake.
