Leonardo Jardim highlights importance of Flamengo v Fluminense Carioca final | OneFootball

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo presented Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim on Thursday at Ninho do Urubu, four days before the Carioca final against Fluminense. At his unveiling he acknowledged the pressure of the job and the challenge of debuting in a derby.

The club met Jardim on Monday to finalise the deal, announced him on Wednesday, then staged his presentation the following day.

Jardim said arriving so close to a clássico leaves little margin, adding that he knows how much derbies matter to supporters and that Fluminense have posed problems.

He revealed he arrived without his full backroom staff because the move came late in the week, and that he had already been in Brazil for a wedding, making the trip from Belo Horizonte to Rio straightforward.

He thanked Flamengo’s staff and players for their support, noted two days filled with meetings and observation, and said he is focused on organising a game of this magnitude.

Flamengo face Fluminense at the Maracanã on Sunday at 18:00 Brasília time, a single match Campeonato Carioca decider.
