Nigeria meet Lesotho this evening as African World Cup qualifying edges towards a potentially thrilling conclusion. The Super Eagles head into their crucial last two fixtures sitting third in Group C, three points behind both leaders Benin and second-placed South Africa, who are separated by goal difference only.
The nine CAF group winners are guaranteed a place at next summer’s tournament, with Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria having already booked their spots, while the four best runners-up will enter a play-off to decide who will progress through to the wider inter-confederation play-offs. South Africa had looked to be closing in on qualification for a first World Cup since hosting in 2010, only to be docked three points by FIFA as a result of fielding a suspended player against Lesotho in March.
That sanction on Bafana Bafana - who take on Zimbabwe on Friday - has blown the group wide open and led to renewed hope for the Super Eagles, who missed out on Qatar in 2022. Striking talisman Victor Osimhen is back for Nigeria tonight after missing last month’s draw with South Africa due to injury. Follow Lesotho vs Nigeria live below!
