What did we Learn as Liverpool Smashed Bayer Leverkusen?

Some nights just hit differently eh? The only danger is we become complacent over what we’re seeing in front of our eyes. It was hard to believe that after a first half like that someone would tell you that the reds would absolutely demolish Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, but that’s exactly what happened at Anfield last night. Anfield was at its majestic best again and another team just couldn’t cope as a German team followed a German manager in being swept away. We look at the lessons learned as the reds go 4/4 and qualification for the knockouts is pretty much assured.

When He Scores, Scores, Scores!

The ground reverberated to his tune many times last night and it was great to see ‘Lucho’ back to his early season best. There was more than a few ready to declare the experiment of him up top not working at half-time, but what a 45 minutes. The first was the epitome of a cool calm striker as he collected the pass from Curtis Jones and dinked it beautifully over the Leverkusen keeper.

The second was a nice finish from a Salah assist and the third owed to fortune, but was well deserved. He’s been out the team recently with Gakpo being in favour, but try leaving him out for Villa just now. Da na na na, da na na na…..don’t pretend you aren’t doing it today!

Jones Bossing Amongst Elite

This was a tough game against the German champions and it was a Scouser who was bossing the middle of the park. Curtis Jones has his detractors for some reason, but in a top champions league tie he was the best midfielder on show. He completed the most dribbles (2/2), won 4/5 duels and completed 90% of his passes.

We’ve already mentioned it too but we don’t care. The assist for Diaz was as sublime as his performance last night and that’s two in two games, although we’re not sure the one for Salah was quite that, but they all count. He’s a nailed on starter in current form right now and he loves playing at Anfield.

So So Much More

There’s almost too much to talk about so we’re just going to package it all up together. Mo Salah has two assists in a massive game and the danger is were becoming blasé to these type of feats. Ibou Konate made Boniface’s night a misery and thank god there’s nothing seriously wrong with his wrist.

Gakpo keeps getting on that scoresheet and it wouldn’t surprise you if Slot trots the same front three out again. I’m enjoying repeating myself on the one too. Anfield was electric again and Leverkusen went the way of Brighton as they were devoured by a wall of sound. Both head coaches got a chant out on the night too. If anyone needed proof the right decision was made…
