Club officials are yet to confirm whether interim boss will remain in his post next season
Michael Carrick refused to be drawn as to whether he has held talks over his Manchester United future after beating Liverpool 3-2 to confirm a place in next season’s Champions League.
The former United midfielder was brought in on a short-term deal after Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties in January, and has overseen a remarkable resurgence.
Sunday’s win over Liverpool means he has now won 13 of the 15 matches he has overseen.
It is not yet confirmed, though, whether he will remain in the post next season. Questions have been raised as to whether Carrick is experienced enough for the role despite his remarkable impact this season, with more experienced managers in Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner both available as free agents.
Carrick’s record is making him a difficult option for the United hierarchy to ignore, though. Speaking after beating Arne Slot’s Liverpool, he said the situation was largely out of his hands.
“It's not about what I like or what I do not like. It's not in my control,” he told Sky Sports. “Everything has gone so well, we know the situation and where we are.

Michael Carrick has transformed Manchester United’s fortunes since his January appointment
“I am happy with where we are at the moment and we still want to get better. Let's see what happens next. At this moment in time, it's not something I am thinking about.”
He continued, adding that he was thrilled with the club’s progress since his appointment.
“It is encouraging. In our little league for the 14 games, we must be top. That in itself, the boys have done really well. Of course we want to keep improving.
“We can't underestimate what the boys have done in that period of time, which has pleased me the most.”
