After Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez spoke out against the club, the head coach hinted at contract renewals in the squad

Liam Rosenior has revealed that Chelsea players will sign contract extensions over the coming weeks.

Criticism of the Chelsea project by senior players Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella has undermined the club in recent weeks, but Rosenior has let slip that players will sign new long-term deals at the club.

That would come as a timely boost to Chelsea, where morale is low following four successive defeats before the international break, and in light of the two-game ban the club imposed on Fernandez for throwing his Chelsea future into significant doubt.

Part of the recruitment strategy deployed by Chelsea under the BlueCo ownership is to tie young players down to extremely long-term contracts. Cole Palmer, Estevao and Joao Pedro, for example, are under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

It is believed that Cucurella was recently handed fresh terms, but currently remains out of contract in 2028. Trevoh Chalobah is under contract until the same summer, with the club retaining an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

There may also be a willingness to tie down Moises Caicedo for longer. His current deal runs until June 2031, with an option for another year, but he remains very happy at the club and is seen as a crucial first-team player for the years ahead.

Cucurella gave an interview to The Athletic over the international break, during which he criticised parts of the way Chelsea is run, namely the focus on signing younger players, but has avoided a ban following a meeting with Rosenior on Thursday.

“Marc is fully committed, he wants to be here,” Rosenior said. “He's made that very, very clear to me.”

He added: “Actions speak louder than words. You will see the commitment of the players to the direction of the club and the project”.

Asked if he was hinting at players signing new contracts, not just effort levels on the pitch, Rosenior replied: “Both, both.”

Asked directly whether new contracts will be reported in the coming weeks, he said: “You’ll see.”

Rosenior said of Chelsea’s summer transfer plans: “We’ve had a lot of conversations, exciting conversations about how we can move things forward this summer. You’ll see.

“You’ll see in the actions that we take rather than the words that I speak now.”

Rosenior also refused to reveal whether Fernandez had expressed regret or remorse for his Real Madrid comments.

“I want to be open with you, but there are certain sacred things in terms of a relationship that, out of respect for Enzo, which I have, I won’t say,” Rosenior said.
