Libertadores group stage draw today, Flamengo’s pot revealed

Flamengo is the Current Champion of the Copa Libertadores

Conmebol will hold the group stage draw for the Copa Libertadores this Thursday (19th). Therefore, Coluna do Fla has gathered the main information about the event, which takes place in Luque, Paraguay.

First of all, it is worth noting that Flamengo is the current champion of the Libertadores. For this reason, the Most Beloved will be the top seed in ‘Pot 1’, and will also be placed in Group A, as is tradition for the previous year’s competition winners.

How Will the Draw Work?

In summary, the 32 participants in the draw are divided into four pots according to the ranking released by Conmebol. Pot 1 brings together the current champion (Flamengo) and the seven highest-ranked clubs.

On the other hand, Pots 2 and 3 follow the descending order of the ranking, and Pot 4 includes the four teams coming from the preliminary phase, that is, the pre-Libertadores. Thus, Flamengo, as the current champion, will be the top seed in Group A.

Additionally, it is important to highlight that, in the first phase of the Libertadores, teams from the same country do not face each other. In other words, Flamengo cannot face Corinthians and Cruzeiro, who are in Pot 2, nor Mirassol, from Pot 4.

Therefore, the only teams that can face compatriots are those who played in the pre-Libertadores. That is: Tolima (COL), Sporting Cristal (PER), Barcelona (ECU), and Independiente Medellín (COL).

Where to Watch the Draw?

In summary, Coluna do Fla TV will broadcast the event live on YouTube, directly from Conmebol headquarters in Paraguay. On the other hand, the broadcast starts at 6:00 PM (Brasília time). In addition, ESPN (pay TV), Disney+ (streaming), and the Conmebol and ESPN Brasil channels, both on YouTube, will also show the draw.

When Will Flamengo Debut in the Competition?

Finally, Flamengo is expected to make its debut between April 7th and 9th, away from home, against the team that lands in Group A, but coming from Pot 3. Therefore, on the evening of this Thursday (19th), it will be decided who the Most Beloved will face in the competition.
